"...for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus,"
Scripture tells us that every person has sinned and cannot live up to God's perfect standard of holiness. This highlights the universal need for salvation, as no one is exempt from falling short. Human beings, on their own, are incapable of earning God's approval or righteousness.
"For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."
The consequence of sin is death, meaning both physical and spiritual separation from God. However, it also offers hope by saying that God's gift of eternal life is available through Jesus Christ.
"Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us."
It's rare for someone to die for a righteous person, and even less likely for someone to die for an unjust person. However, God shows His incredible love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.
"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved."
God’s love for humanity is so great that He sent Jesus to offer eternal life to everyone who believes in Him. Jesus came to rescue the world, providing a way for salvation. This shows that God’s intention is to save, not condemn, giving everyone the chance to be restored to Him.
"Jesus said to him, 'I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.' "
Jesus is the only way to God, the embodiment of truth, and the giver of eternal life. No one can come to the Father except through Him, pointing to the necessity of faith in Jesus for salvation.
"Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”
The Bible often repeats itself to emphasize key truths. This scripture further solidifies that Jesus is the only way to salvation.
"...that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation."
If you openly declare Jesus as Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.
"For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast."
We must remember that salvation is a gift from God, not something we can earn through our own efforts. We are saved by grace through faith, so no one can boast about their own works.
"Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord,"
After we accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, we are called to repent. Repentance is turning away from our sin and changing our behavior by the Holy Spirit.
"What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it?"
As previously mentioned, the Bible frequently repeats itself to highlight important truths. This scripture further solidifies that we are called to repent, or turn away from our sin.
"Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me."
Salvation enables us to have a personal relationship with Jesus. He doesn't force that relationship, it's up to us to welcome Him in.
